When you arrive at the labyrinth's threshold pause to become aware of your intention for this prayer walk and seek to pay attention on the journey.
Three-Fold Path 1. Releasing: From the entrance to the centre is the path of shedding or “letting go.” There is a release and an emptying of worries and concerns. Try to eliminate worldly concerns and quiet the mind. 2. Receiving: At the centre there is illumination, insight, clarity, and focus. It is here that you are invited into a receptive, prayerful, meditative state. Take time to stand or sit to allow what this unique moment offers. When you sense you have received a gift or are centred begin the journey outward. |
3. Relating: The return walk from the centre to the exit is the path of becoming grounded and integrating the gifts received. There is energy
and an invitation to share what was received. When you leave the labyrinth take a few steps back and let the experience settle in you. |
General Guidelines
Entrance: Pause and wait at the entrance. Become quiet and centered. Make some gesture such as a bow or nod, and then enter.
Experience: Walk purposefully. There is no right way to walk it. Observe the process. When you reach the centre, stay there and focus for several moments. Leave when it seems appropriate. Be attentive on the way out as you retrace your steps.
Exit: As you leave the path turn and face the entrance. Pause and give an acknowledgement of ending, such as a bow, nod,
or “Amen.”
Reflect: After walking the labyrinth reflect on your experience.
